TiVo Weds Amazon
TiVo was once thought to be the end of television advertising. Now it is letting it’s viewers reach Amazon.com to shop as much as they want. TiVo is now entering the world of ecom via a new partnership with Amazon.com
TiVo has unveiled a new Product Purchase feature. This new partnership is a dream come true for some advertisers. This partnership will see TiVo displaying menu links to Amazons online store. Viewers can use their remote to buy books and CD’s featured on talk shows.
This venture is part of the changing face of TiVo from a pure play set-top to one with new lines of business. The television business model is being reinvented by TiVo. According to Evan Young, TiVo, they are so much more than just a DVR company now.
TiVo is now reaching out to marketers to develop new means of getting products to the end user. TiVo displayed ads are contextual as well. A viewer who has just seen “Lost” might be urged to visit Amazon and watch a seasons episodes of the series. Another search feature is the Universal Swivel Search.
