TiVo Updates
The latest update on TiVo is that the most watched commercials for TiVo users are movie trailers. The most viewed commercial in May-June was the Hancock trailer starring Will Smith. The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight along with The Happening trailed it closely. The fifth most watched commercial was a Nike ad.
Movie trailers have been recognized as powerful attention grabbers. Samsung’s Instinct smartphone was backed by The Ultimate Product Placement movie trailer ad campaign. This is probably responsible for the Instinct smartphone becoming the top selling handset of Best Buy.
Also in news is the discovery that viewer are more likely to fast forward broadcast network commercials than ones aired on cable networks.
In other news the 2 hour finale of Lost in June dominated ratings. Most of the viewing of this program was live and not timeshifted. Every top 10 commercial aired during the Lost season finale (Timeshifted viewing). Here again, the top 5 spots for Timeshifted viewing were for movies. This again demonstrates that movie commercials rule the roost. Perhaps the reason for movie commercials being so popular is that they are about entertainment and when the viewer is in a mode where he is being entertainment, he is more likely to seek more entertainment, which is why he watches movie commercials
