TiVo To TV
Are you bored of your monotonous TV watching experience? If you are, then you will definitely appreciate what the latest buzz about TiVo says. The DVR pioneer’s and Comcast Cables are all set to revolutionize the TV industry by making the ordinary TV do all that a TiVo does.
The plan involves embedding software in New Englanders’ cable boxes that would perform the TiVo’s fast forwarding and view-later functions without the need for a separate TiVo box. Meanwhile TiVo has made a deal with Mitsubishi to cart off its own DVR boxes with Mitsubishi televisions.
Alongside, Comcast is working in tandem with Sony and is all set to embark on a plan to do away with the physical set-top boxes. As there are no technical reasons as to why TiVo couldn’t eventually be embedded in future high-definition digital TV sets, the idea to include virtual, software based cable boxes inside the TV itself, should most probably be a success.
Speaking at the All Things D industry conference, Tivo CEO Tom Rogers said that “Tivo no longer is an industry renegade, but is weaving its way into the fabric of the media industry.” He went on to say that rather than fighting DVRs, media executives have finally realized that “fast forwarding of commercials is here to stay,” and are coming up with more compelling, more attractive and catchy advertisements that might actually arouse the consumers interest.
It now remains to be seen whether this hype about the TiVo-TV collaboration lives up to its expectations.
