TiVo Series 3 Production Stopped, TiVo HD Continues

TiVo‘s high end Series3 production has been discontinued. This is to make greater room for the TiVo HD. The TiVo HD is cheaper than the Series 3 but offers similar features. The Series 3 was given a great response by purchasers and it’s price had been lowered as well, yet a production cut came about.

TiVO Lovers says that after the $200 rebate on the Series 3 during the holidays there was a tide in holiday sales that is partly responsible for the cut in production. TiVo’s warehouses were emptied quickly. Due to a shortage in Series 3 parts there arose several marketing issues which led to TiVo deciding to shelve the Series 3.

Although there are still Series 3′s around, they aren’t going to last long. There is no replenishment for stocks of Series 3 in the offing. Thankfully for those who have bought Series 3 already, TiVo will continue to support it. However they will be pushing the TiVo HD unit more than ever. Updates on Series 3 features are expected as well as support of TiVo’s service.

So if you are one of the people who bough a Series 3 over the holidays there is no major reason to worry. If you want a Series 3 then you need to hurry up before they disappear.
