TiVO News 12.15.07

TiVO has become the default name for DVR’s. It is also a verb, just like Google. It has had some recent problems with networks and advertisers since it’s technology allows user to zap past advetisements. It is now trying to patch up with them.

TiVo’s technology can be overcome (in a sense) by interactive banner ads that TiVo is offering to advertisers. This technology ensures that the advertisers name is seen. In addition viewers can choose to click on the Ads to get more information on the product.

In addition a deal with NBC Universal gives NBC second by second viewership data and demographic information. This is available from 20,000 TiVo subscribers. This is like this century’s Nielsen ratings system.

When advertisers want their dollars to reach you they will, eh?

In other TiVo news, TiVo’s lifetime service plan is back! For a lifetime service, TiVo HD, and Wi-Fi network adapter you can now pay $700. That is quite a bundle but in about two and a half years you break even and then it is all honey.
