TiVo Enters Canada
TiVo has been in the United States for about a decade. It has enriched the viewing experience of many Americans for a long time. Now it is set to make Canada its home.
It has been available in Canada for about two weeks and is recognized as a “smart recorder.” TiVo requires a wireless adapter or a permanent internet cable connection. Shows can be easily recorded on TiVo. Suppose you want to record western’s starring Clint Eastwood, all you have to do is punch in “Clint Eastwood Western”.
TiVo has the capacity to record two shows at the same time. In addition you can pause live TV. In addition for those who find commercials boring, they can skip these. A 80 GB TiVo is available for $200 and the wireless adapter for $59.
Once you have your TiVo box, you need to pay a monthly charge of $12.95 or $129 per year. TiVo is expected to sell heavily during the Christmas season. One problem with TiVo is that it is incompatible with HDTV in Canada. Although HD TiVo is available in the US, it is not in Canada.
This is not a big issue since only one in ten people who purchase HDTV, subscribe to HD programming. Although TiVo has not been heavily advertised in Canada, it has been very well recieved. This is due to all the years of satisfying customers in the US.
