Novel Advertising to address commercial avoidance

TiVo is looking for ways to address the serious issue of commercial avoidance by consumers. Although TiVo permits users to skip commercials, commercials are the life blood (read cash) of programs. This means that everyone loses in the long run – even viewers. This is why TiVo has introduced a new way to help broadcasters showcase brands.

The in-pause advertising screen is in. There are now TV flashing ads whenever viewers pause the screen. 20th Century Fox is the first to latch on to this new form of advertising from TiVo. They are promoting the release of Dr. Seuss’ “Horton Hears a Who” – available on DVD and Blu Ray.

As the number of DVR homes rises, this is one solution to commercial avoidance that just may work. The TV industry may have found a way to reach users of TiVo.
