Importing Your BeyondTV Library into SageTV
PVR’s have one major problem. After you start using them you have to continue using that recorder until you have watched all your recorded programs. The reason is this -transfering TiVo recordings to the generic cable company PVR is quite difficult.
If you use a PC based PVR that runs software like Windows Media Center, SageTV or BeyondTV, things are a lot easier. In this case, with recorded shows on your hard drive already, all you have to do is watch them with new software.
SageTV recordings can be watched in BeyondTV as well as the other way round, certain operations are complicated. If you want to sort by chronological order or view program descriptions. You can now import BeyondTV metadata into SageTV courtesy Brent Evans. Find more information on this at http://brentevans.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-convert-beyond-tv-shows-into.html
There is more. Users can test SageTV without losing recorded shows and then go back to BeyondTV if they please. All this takes a bit of work. Several applications built by SageTV and BeyondTV community members need to be downloaded. The data then needs to be exported, converted into friendly formats et al. If you are a TV fan, however you will find it all worth it.
