File Transfer Problem With TiVo

The fall Update of TiVo‘s software has been causing problems for TiVo users. Users of TiVo have been able to transfer TiVo recorded shows to iPods, laptops and other mobile devices or onto DVD’s. This is done using a software called Toast8 from Roxio as part of the TiVoToGo feature.

Late 2007, recording and transferring ceased functioning for some users of Toast. Early October the complaints started coming in about being unable to transfer or burn shows. The problem began soon after the Fall Update installed on the TiVo box.

Roxio says the method of saving recorded video files was changed by the fall update which led to technical issues in Roxio’s software. Even after its own software updates to fix the problem Roxio wasn’t able to nail the issue. File transfer began working, but hiccups remained.

There is an audio delay, mostly of a second or two rendering programs burnt onto DVD unwatchable. There is no clarity on why all Roxio Toast and Popcorn users do not have the same problem.

Meanwhile customers want to know why the issue is taking so long to address. The stated issue is that the problem is not being replicated easily – it doesn’t happen on every file. Frustrated customers also sent out an email campaign to TiVo’s CEO with no result.
