Disney Movies, Courtesy TiVO

In a new move, TiVo Inc. is going to allow it’s subscribers to download Disney movies from their TV sets, direct. An agreement with Disney and CinemaNow will allow customers to rent Disney movies for 24 hour periods. TiVo’s DVR harddrives will store the films temporarily.

Faced with increasing competition from cable and satellite companies, TiVo is trying to give its subscribers more on-demand content. More than 30,000 titles are already offered by TiVo via Amazon.com, Music choice and such other companies.

Tara Maitra, VP TiVo, content services says that their aim is to give control to viewers as well as unlimited content. The financial aspects of the deal were kept confidential. TiVO Series2 and Series3 subscribers who are broadband connected can take advantage of the deal.

Movie offerings will be mainly in standard definition but some will also be available in high definition. TiVo is trying to enhance offerings and distinguish itself from other DVR’s. TiVo also made a statement that it is offering an automatic recording of program recommendations of Maureen Ryan. The lady in question is the TV critic of the Chicago Tribune.
