Apple And TiVo Battle For Convergence Between PC and TV

There have been cola wars and Nike vs Reebok wars and all sorts of commercial rivalries. The latest addition to this long list of rivalries is the rivalry between Apple and TiVo. This is a battle for PC TV convergence. Both have been trying to bring more features as well as internet sourced content to your TV.

YouTube was introduced as a widescreen feature first by Apple. Apple TV was released in March 2007. In January there was an uprgade of the services. TiVo recently made an announcement that similar offerings would be made by them. Now with a software upgrade about 800,000 will be able to to subscribe to CNET video clips or any other internet content.

According to Tara Maitra, TiVo, they aim to make as much web video content available as possible thus bridging the gap between web video and television. The young people provide a big market for such services. Sony and Netflix have also made similar offerings. There are new startups like Vudu and Building B which are in this market as well.
