A Whopping 150 HDTV Hours on The New TiVO!
TiVo fanatics have a reason to celebrate. A new high end model has been introduced which will record 150 HDTV hours. The price is $600. With a built in 1 terabyte hard drive, there is a lot of room to store your recorded programs and movies. Other than the gargantuan capacity, the HD XL is very similar to the TiVo HD. The cost of the TiVo HD is only about half of this new model.
With the new model comes a THX certification for high end audio as well as a premium backlit remote control. The USP remains the added capacity, however. If you want to go cheaper, though you can add a $150 external hard drive to the TiVo HD. You will have more wires though. The backlit remote is available for $50.
This means that the price has to drop for the XL to be really popular. TiVo definitely offers better than what cable companies offer. The subscription costs are similar. TiVo software is easier to use and better. In addition internet capabilities are being steadily added to TiVo. These include streaming movies and subscription music. This is not likely to be offered on cable in the near future.
