A TiVo without a Subscription: Does it Still Work?
Many people today are now purchasing the TiVo DVR and are subscribing to its services of course to take full advantage of this fine piece of machinery. However, there are some people who find the subscription too expensive and are stuck with their TiVo. So, what can you do with your TiVo if you don’t have any subscription? Can your TiVo still work without a subscription?
Basically, your TiVo DVR will still be able to work even without a subscription. You will still be able to manually record TV shows as well as pause and rewind live TV. However, you won’t be able to take advantage of some of the features that TiVo provides, such as automatic recording, software updates, and guide downloads.
Also, because there are no suggestions, you will have no idea when your TiVo’s hard drive is full.
Another problem that most people experience in a TiVo DVR without TiVo subscription is that it won’t let unsubscribe users record programs for over 30 minutes.
Also, you will often get “nag screens” everyday when you start up your TiVo recommending that you subscribe.
That’s basically all that you can do with TiVo if you don’t have any subscription. So, if you have TiVo, you might as well subscribe in order for you to take advantage of its full features. With the subscription, you will be able to get the TiVo software updated and other features that are not available in unsubscribed TiVo’s.
You may want to try subscribing for a month and you will be able to see if TiVo subscription is for you or not. If it is not, then you can simply cancel your subscription or if you like what you see, you can try purchasing longer subscription options in order for you to save more money.
