I would go as far as to say that TiVo is the next big home entertainment addition since DVD players. HDTV’s are great as are computers streaming media into the living room. But there is nothing like TiVo.
TiVo is a DVR, a Digital Video Recorder. If you want to watch programs that you could not have otherwise watched due to time and space constraints TiVo is the perfect solution. TiVO records TV programs, and stores them onto its hard drive. Then you can watch these shows at liesure. But TiVO is not just piece of great hardware. It is an experience.

TiVo HD DVR Now Has Microtune 3 in 1 TV Tuner

Microtune’s 3 in 1 TV tuner has been deployed in TiVo Inc’s HD DVR. Microtune’s chips provide superb HD pictures, sound, TV entertainment, multimedia and interactive service capabilities to the TiVo set-top. According to Albert Taddiken, CEO, Microtune, the TiVo set-top using Microtune’s tuners and feature rich software would deliver superior sound and picture. State of the art MT2131 chips would be used in the box.

SDV TiVo Adapter To Be Tested

In order to free bandwidth, many cable operators are using switches digital video technology (SDV) which results in more bandwidth. How this happens is that fewer channels are delivered to the cable box, and the rest are kept waiting at the edge router.
There is concern from third party DVR companies that one way cablecards could be rendered useless with this new two-way technology. The NCTA (National Cable and Telecommunications Association) made an announcement last year that they would partner with TiVo to create an external adapter that would enable TiVo access to SDV channels.

File Transfer Problem With TiVo

The fall Update of TiVo‘s software has been causing problems for TiVo users. Users of TiVo have been able to transfer TiVo recorded shows to iPods, laptops and other mobile devices or onto DVD’s. This is done using a software called Toast8 from Roxio as part of the TiVoToGo feature.
Late 2007, recording and transferring ceased functioning for some users of Toast. Early October the complaints started coming in about being unable to transfer or burn shows. The problem began soon after the Fall Update installed on the TiVo box.

TiVo Series 3 Production Stopped, TiVo HD Continues

TiVo‘s high end Series3 production has been discontinued. This is to make greater room for the TiVo HD. The TiVo HD is cheaper than the Series 3 but offers similar features. The Series 3 was given a great response by purchasers and it’s price had been lowered as well, yet a production cut came about.
TiVO Lovers says that after the $200 rebate on the Series 3 during the holidays there was a tide in holiday sales that is partly responsible for the cut in production. TiVo’s warehouses were emptied quickly. Due to a shortage in Series 3 parts there arose several marketing issues which led to TiVo deciding to shelve the Series 3.

Research Partnership Between TiVo and CBS

On Thursday, TiVo, the DVR company issued a statement saying that CBS Corp. the mass media company and TiVo Inc. had joined together in a research partnership. The financial terms of the partnership were undisclosed by TiVo.
According to the partnership agreement, CBS will be able to “develop and measure new strategies to deliver results for its advertising clients.” CBS Corp. would also learn “how to structure pods and interstitials to better keep audience attention during commercial breaks.” In addition CBS would find help in developing better promotional strategies for time shifted viewers.
